PRESS
RELEASE
Pro-Hijab met with French
Councillor
Members of the Assembly for the
Protection of Hijab (Protect-Hijab) met with French Councillor Mrs Levert
at the French Embassy in London on Wednesday 1st September 2004, to
express their solidarity with the French people during the crisis of
the French hostages in Iraq.
Pro-Hijab condemns the actions of the kidnappers as being against the
principles of Islam and as harming the cause of organisations such as
Protect-Hijab who are dedicated to using all legal and peaceful methods to
reverse the Hijab ban wherever it is in place. Pro-Hijab has offered
its assistance to the French throughout this crisis.
“The meeting was invaluable as it helped both protect-Hijab and the French
Embassy set out our respective positions in relation to this crisis,
with both sides sharing the same view – the taking of hostages is
unacceptable,” stated Rajnaara Akhtar, Vice Coordinator of Pro-Hijab.
Mrs Levert thanked the Pro-Hijab representatives for the visit which
helped establish links between both parties.
International Hijab Solidarity Day is due to take place on Saturday
September 4th and will be marked in England by picket outside the
French Embassy, Knightsbridge, London, 12 - 2:00pm.
This will be a day of solidarity between all people who share the
conviction that religious intolerance must not be allowed to fester
and grow. The British Pro-Hijab team is expecting supporters of all
religions and no religion to turn out at the picket.
Other events to mark the day are expected to take place in over 20
countries worldwide, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Holland,
Ireland, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Portirico, South Africa,
Spain and the United States.
