A17 year old of Iraqi origin Yasemin Ettahir, who attends Auburn
High School for Girls in Sydney, is allowed to attend the classes
wearing her headscarf.
Formerly, Yasemin was informed that she could not attend classes
wearing her headscarf; however, upon her family's application, she
was able to rejoin the classes wearing her headscarf. Permission
for Ettahir, became the issue of debates in the state of South
New-Wales. School officials declared that the permission given is
not contrary to dress code regulations. Giving support to the
school administration, State Premier Bob Carr said, "Let's look at
the differences in our society with tolerance" And he made a call
for the case to be closed.
