BRUSSELS, Belgium: Hundreds of demonstrators on Sunday took to the streets of Brussels protesting against a recent decision by a school regarding banning of its girl students from wearing the Islamic headscarf.

Chanting slogans, the protestors, that include headscarf-wearing women, called on Belgian authorities not to approve the decision of the French-speaking school in Laken, outside Brussels, to ban headscarves on its premises.

The principal of the school, which majority of the pupils are Muslim, insists that cultural divides should be left outside the school.

A Belgian Islamic group known as the party of citizens and prosperity and the Arab-European league were the organizers of the protest rally.
