The truth about a young girl
with the shaved head
Although she had decided to wear a hat at the start of
the school year Cennet was "put in quarantine" in her own high school
in Strasbourg. We publish today a direct testimony from Amanda Galpi
who tells precisely how Cennet decided, by herself, to
go to school with her hair shaved off in order to be
admitted in class. Amanda is a close friend of the family who was told
about Cennet's intention since last August. This testimony totally
contradicts the caricatural version given by the media, especially the
one given in the TV program "Soyons directs" ("Let's be direct")
broadcasted on M6 (French TV channel)on Friday, Oct,15, during which
the presenter Emmanuel Chain came literally to the conclusion that
Cennet had been manipulated.
"It is deplorable to observe how it has become easy to
slander, and so much assurance, on TV!
Is the Cennet Doganay case too "thought-provoking"?
So, to avoid that the public opinion get too carried
away, one will just have to say that the young high school girl with
the shaved head has been manipulated.
Emmanuel Chain concluded, Friday evening, his show on
this piece of evidence, and on Sunday one of the presenters of "Arret
sur images" echoed his conclusion on the fifth channel!
According to them, the teenager is the puppet of Dr
Milcent, very suspicious character for the only reason that he
defended, in the past, some girls wearing hijab and that he continues
to defend them against the abuses of the implementation of the law of
the 15 of March, which, by the way, he is not the only one to expose.
Thus, it would be this "dark character" who would have
ordered Cennet Doganay to shave her head? It is regrettable to notice
that we carry on presenting Muslim women wearing hijab as alienated
people, deprived from their free will by a dominating male who holds
them to his mercy. This old cliché persists!
In front of so much injustice, I could not keep quiet
any longer. This is why I decided to write this article, in order to
re-establish the truth on the story of Cennet Doganay, one of my
former students.
I was one of the very first persons to have been told
by Cennet herself, that she had decided to shave her head if she was
not accepted in class with some kind of headgear having no religious
symbolism.
It was last August. Last summer, the same question
haunted the young girl: how to keep studying without breaking what she
considers as being a divine
commandment?
To shave off the cause of the conflict seemed to her,
with growing evidence, to be the solution, as the start of the school
year was approaching. Her parents did not
want to hear about such a gesture that they considered
as being humiliating and violent, and were trying to find a private
school for their daughter, in France or
abroad, that would accept her with her hijab. But in
vain...
On the first day of school, the teenager goes to
school wearing a nice sun hat, but she is ordered to take it off. As
she refuses she is brought in a room with windows so high that she
cannot be seen from the outside.
For a few days she will be isolated on this room, then,
on her mum's demand who protests against the fact that her daughter is
put in quarantine, she is transferred successively in the
headmistress's office and in her deputy's.
She will not have the right to go out at break time.
On the 5th of Sept, Cennet acts. She starts shaving her
hair off, alone, than she implores her mother then her father to
finish off the "job". The young girl decided to go to school "without
any headgear", but her dad refuses, not seeing why his daughter would
be breaking the law with a hat!
On Sept,28, Cennet not standing it anymore and more
decided than ever to "join the others, in class", even with a bald
head, get the permission by her father.
The latter then informs the "Comité 15 mars et liberté"
and asks that the media be there for the morning of the "unveiling" of
the shaved head; "I want everybody to know what my daughter is
compelled to do to be able to study! he said.
In front of the cameras of France 3, on this first day
of October, Cennet will explain that she accepted to speak to the
journalists in order to refute the fact the start
of the school year had been "very successful" as had
proudly announced the politicians and the media!
The hijab ban is a source of suffering for many high
school girls compelled to take their scarves off, as well as for their
close relatives and friends. For all these people wounded in their
self-esteem, the start of the school year has been a real disaster!
To present TV shows judging people thoughtlessly
jumping to conclusions is really respectful of human dignity and a
denial of the suffering of the other...
