PRESS RELEASE
ProHijab
Supports Cennet Doganay
The Assembly for the
Protection of
Hijab
would like to extend its solidarity with 15 year old Cennet Doganay,
the French teenager forced to choose between her basic constitutional
right to an education and the freedom to practice her religion.
On Friday October 1st Cennet
attended the Louis Pasteur Lycee high school in Strasbourg but unlike
any other day she arrived with her hair shaved off.
France’s extremist secular law known as
la loi sur la laïcité has led to despair and frustration for many
French Muslim school girls who are now being forced to take such
extreme measures as a desperate cry against the oppressive Hijab ban
and to demonstrate their opposition to an irrational and unmistakably
discriminatory law.
Cennet said she respected the law, but the
law did not respect her religion, adding, “I will respect both French
law and Muslim law by taking off what I have on my head and not
showing my hair.” Her conviction and serious action undoubtedly proves
that her decision, and that of many like her, to wear the Hijab, is a
conscious and personal choice and not something forced upon them. This
false claim is made by many supporters of the ban.
Pro-Hijab strongly believes that the law
‘intended to free’ these young ladies have clearly oppressed them, as
seen outside the gates of Louis Pasteur Lycee high school last Friday.
